I’ve made my living writing Key West/Caribbean novels for the last decade, so I’m fairly sure I know what works for authors and readers. “Peavey’s Paradise” has the right taste and feel for South Florida, and the characters are real and gritty. It’s not exotic writing, but it keeps your nose in the book and keeps you turning pages, while stroking you with humor here and there – and that’s what every reader wants. Author G.D. Young sweeps you up from the very first page with a bona fide sense of authority and carries you to well-paced, satisfying conclusion. Nice job, Mr. Young.Michael Reisig, author of “The Road to Key West” series.

PEAVEY'S PARADISE edition by GD YOUNG Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
What a good book a real page turner..fast read. Another book taking place in wild and crazy Florida.
Zombies..Voodoo..Police corruption ..Lovers and haters and the mob a whole new collection of crazy..
I love detective thrillers set in the Caribbean and the Florida Keys. This novel held my interest and kept me wondering what would develop next. Great characters and great story line with lots of curves and twists. You will enjoy this book.
I bought this book due to its low price and because it takes place in Florida. While the story wasn't too bad, the extreme number of typos and typesetting errors really distracted from the story. This book has more typesetting and spelling errors than any book I have ever read! If the book cost more than 99¢ I would have been upset. If you like detective stories, you may like this book. It isn't a great mystery, so mystery fans should look for something else.
For me this was a very good and interesting read. I enjoyed the action and personal within this book. It had a half believable storyline and a few twists and turns that keep you wondering. I did enjoy this book. The ending was very will though out and unexpected. I'm going to recommend this book to friends.
Peavey is everyman who has encountered a few setbacks in life. Disgraced cop, failed husband, frustrated musician. He is a recovering drunk who lives above a bar. He is "employed" by a lawyer as a part time gumshoe to look for the perennially missing daughter of a wealthy local who turns up dead. Peavey wakes up mysteriously just yards from the body. The chase is on to find the real killer and to clear himself. The story is written with humor without being totally wacky. Easy reading and very enjoyable.
Most thrillers set in Southwest Florida and the Keys are interesting for the descriptions and use of local culture and landmarks, but are getting somewhat interchangeable when it comes the writing. Peavey's Paradise is much better than the usual series, in both the writing and the character portayals. I was disappointed to learn that this is (so far) a solo effort, but I guess that's better than the same old over and over again. There are a few things that an editor might have corrected, but it was a genuinely enjoyable book.
This debut novel is so good it should have been in the running for a Debut Digger, an Edgar or an Agatha award. Why was it not? Because it was self published. This author is too good and I hope his next book uses an agent. Now, the book review.
This novel smacks of the works of Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. Bogart and Bacall would have loved the two lead parts, that's how good this book is.
The plot is superb. The characters varied, but totally believable. The dialogues are clever, sardonic, descriptive, rooted in reality and would translate to the screen easily. The parrot is a riot and could qualify for MENSA.
You need to read this book. The author needs to write another Peavey book and use an agent to get it published by a reputable firm.
